Games Malachy Plays; The purple chair game

When Jake and I moved out of our college living accommodation and into our very own grown up condo, we decided that we would invest in some grown up furniture to go along with it.  Of course, we were 22 and 24 years old and had no idea what we were doing, so we ended up with this GIANT green velvet loveseat and "matching" purple 1 1/2 chair.  When it was delivered to our condo, we were so confused as to why it didn't look good.  None of our furniture looked any good in the 1970's apartment style condo with it's work gray carpeting and white walls.  While it was impractical and didn't look good, we ended up falling in love with the ridiculous purple chair.  Since we could sit in it together, it was pretty much all we sat in.

When we moved into our house, all of our furniture instantly looked better.  My sister in law Ellen said that we had bought all our furniture for the house that we wanted to live in, not the house that we actually lived in.  That being said, a velvet green couch and velvet purple chair are hardly high class furniture pieces.  We finally got rid of the green loveseat a few years ago, but we could not bring ourselves to part with the purple chair.  It sits now in the middle of our living room.  It still doesn't quite go with anything, the seat cushion is lumpy and it had an emergency repair when the frame broke last year.  With all it's flaws, we still love that purple chair.  It is the chair that I sit in with Malachy to read stories before his nap and before bedtime.  It is the chair that Jake and I cuddle up in together (or cuddle with the kids in).  Malachy has claimed the chair as his own for watching his morning cartoons...and maybe most importantly, it is the main prop used in the purple chair game.

The purple chair game (PCG) involves pushing a chair or stool over to the back the the purple chair, climbing on it and then over the back of the chair.  Over, and over, and over and over again.  When we need Mal to burn off some steam, but we can't get outdoors, we suggest a little of the PCG.  Here is a video of Mal and his friend Ryan playing the PCG.
Except for the beating it takes on our already well loved purple chair, the PCG seemed like a perfect way to allow Mal to get crazy in the house...that is until yesterday when he took a header over the side of the chair and ended up with a good egg on his forehead.

This morning, he asked me to move the highchairs out of the way so he could play the PCG.  After seeing the head first dive over the side, I am still debating whether or not we are going to be playing this one anymore...

Oh, what the heck.  Malachy has a hard head...and he has a lot of fun playing.
