A first and third fourth

Catching up on blogging

The 4th of July is a big deal around here.  We moved into our house on 4th of July weekend 8 years ago.  We instantly fell in love with our neighborhood.  The small town type parade where there may be more people participating in the parade than watching it, the decorations, the neighborhood party.  We embraced it all and have been active parade participants ever since.
All dressed up with a parade to go to

Last year was the first year we were not actually in the parade.  I was enormously pregnant and could barely walked the 2 blocks down to watch the parade, let alone participate in it.  While we were sure the girls would have been born by the 4th last year, by the time the day came, we were all just hoping I would not go into labor and have them on the fourth.  They waited until 2am the next morning to kick labor into gear.

aka the car with no top on it

This was Malachy's 3rd Fourth of July parade and the first for the girls.  While I am not about to give birth this year, life is still pretty crazy, so again we did not do a float.  The kids did decorate their bikes and scooters to ride with the crowd...and we decided to take the girls in the new baby brigade to show them off.  They are pretty well known in the neighborhood already, so there were lots of cheers from the crowd as we drove in the back of the convertible.  The girls seemed to thrive off the attention and were awesome about waving and clapping to the crowd.  They were simply adorable.  As for Malachy, he was just so excited to drive in a car with no top on it.

After the parade, we had the usual BBQ and slip-and-slide festivities (although much more subdued).  It was a much more scaled back version of the 4th, but no less festive or fun.

Now we have to work out what the float for next year will be...
